Okay, so this didn’t exactly take off like I had hoped. I got lazy, and didn’t have enough inspiration or dedication. All I got out of this was a ton of comment spam — I came here to disable the blog, or at least turn off comment abilities. I found a new anti-spam plugin, so I will try that first. I will most likely eventually discontinue this blog, but for now I will leave it here. Not that it matters either way, it can sit here dormant just as easily as not. Hah.

So, in case you actually ever stop by here, just wanted to let you know this blog is currently suspended until further notice. Thanks!

By the wayside

I haven’t really been keeping on top of this blog. I guess that’s par for the course, I usually have a hard time sticking to my projects. I guess I got intimidated when I realized that 99.9% of the blogs out there are more interesting, popular and active than mine.

I’m considering just scrapping the whole thing in lieu of something more appropriate for my pace, but I haven’t quite figured out what that is yet.

However, I get spam comments on here almost everyday now, sometimes more than one per day, and it pisses me off that the only “people” accessing this page are spam bots. I’m tired of having to spam/delete comments that are just rubbish. I don’t know if this happens a lot to blog owners, but it seems kind of ridiculous considering how little this thing gets updated, and how little I’ve promoted it… why am I getting spam? ARGH.

Anyway, thanks for reading if you have. This page may change, or not exist next time you wander through. If you are even out there reading this at all.

Mouse circus fun

I want to write a decent review of Coraline but I think I’ll try that tomorrow. But for now, you should visit Coraline.com and play with all the fun stuff. They added this section to the mouse circus where you can have them spell your name out. How cute.

I’ll try to write something up later, a recount is available on my Livejournal, but that is friend’s only so I will just cook something up for the blog later. In short, I really loved it and hope it will be well loved by all.

Well, this is probably the coolest thing I’ve seen in awhile. I can’t wait to see where this technology goes, and if it really takes off, that will probably be our next vehicle. It’s exciting to see these changes, and gives me hope that there really are people working on solutions to the problems we’re facing in our environment. Every day I see more people using cloth grocery bags, and now there is a vehicle with ZERO emissions. This is huge! Good job Honda, keep up the good work.

New Coraline preview

Neil Gaiman posted in his blog (and Twitter!) about a new Coraline trailer, which is the first he said he’s actually liked, and asked people to spread it around. Upon watching it, I have to say it does blow the others out of the water, and makes me want to see this film even more. It really brings back a sense of what the book was about, with a nice little dash of “oh yeah, this was directed by Henry Selick!” that doesn’t jump out as you as much in previous trailers. I am getting pretty excited to see it.

In other news, I made it to Carl’s Jr. yesterday, to check out the Coraline toys that come in their kid’s meals. They are pretty much what I expected — cheap, quickly thought out kid’s meal toys, that I’m sure will entertain a number of children. The tic tac toe pieces look like big plastic buttons, so that is kind of cute. The keychain/ID tag is sort of disappointing in that “made in China” sort of way. I like the little mirror, because even though it’s just a flimsy mylar mirror, I can see where it would be fun for kids (I know I certainly liked that silly stuff) and inside it contains a puzzle, and as I kid I adored puzzles. So they’re at least appealing to the kid audience. I haven’t really checked out the card game all that much, but it looks interesting.

The fellow at Carl’s Jr. was very pleasant, and they even brought our food out to us. I really went there just to get the toys, and ended up really enjoying the food as well. They have natural-cut fries that out trump any out there in the fast food world right now. The western cheeseburger was juicy and flavorful, without being overwhelming (i.e. not as greasy and sickening as the JITB equivalent, which they no longer make anyway.) The overall atmosphere of the place was very clean and friendly, unlike any McDonald’s you walk into. I kind of hope they build more around here, but also not because I really don’t need to gain back that 30 pounds I lost. Heh!

Well that is all for now, I may hit up the theaters tomorrow and see a movie for the first time in ages. I haven’t written a movie review in 5 years or so, so I need to challenge myself! Please be sure to also check out my Associated content page, I just recently posted a new poem and have another in the works. It seems to have been received well so far, I was sort of worried with the sensitive nature of the topic. In any case, I’m excited to be writing again.

Coraline is Coming.

Oh, how I so want to go to this. $50 for tickets, and it’s on a stupid Thursday. I doubt I will be able to make it, as I have to work that day and the day after, and Portland is a 3 hour drive. Le sigh.

Chuck Palahniuk’s CHOKE – Official Trailer

In 1996, our very own northwest author Chuck Palahniuk published this little book called Fight Club … and in 1999 it was made into an Oscar-nominated classic that at first became popular by inadvertently encouraging the formation of amateur “Fight clubs” all around the U.S. While this was it’s biggest claim to media and news fame, it was still a really great film. A couple of years later, I was living in Spokane, WA when a friend mentioned going to see Chuck Palahniuk reading from a new book somewhere downtown, and asked if I’d like to come. I didn’t really know this Chuck guy, but when he told me he was the writer of Fight Club I said sure, why not.

From that point on I became a rabid fan, reading whatever I could get my hands on. My favorite was probably Invisible Monsters which apparently was rejected the first time he tried to publish it for being too graphic. But that’s what I loved about it! Now, I don’t expect that one to ever make it to the big screen, but I was elated when I heard that his 2001 novel that had originally brought him to Spokane that first time I saw him speak, Choke, was being made into a movie. Unfortunately, being in my media rut, I didn’t get a chance to find a theater that it was playing in. But I wanted to share the trailer here, and mention that it will be released on DVD on February 17, 2009. Take a look, and expect a review here once it comes around in my Netflix queue next month!

Official Coraline Trailer & Video games!

Just in case you haven’t seen it (whoever “you” are, at this point) check out the Coraline trailer. I personally haven’t seen a movie in a theater in over a year, but I am so planning to go see this one. I loved the book, and of course anything Neil Gaiman is worth leaving the house for.

I’m also excited because I just discovered there will be a Coraline game released for DS, Wii, and PS2!! I will probably get the Wii and/or DS versions and post reviews here once I’ve played them.
